(KRON) -- Deputies with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office arrested who they called a "prolific" copper thief Saturday after a days-long investigation and recovering hundreds of pounds of copper components.
On Oct. 8, a Santa Rosa property owner told police someone had broken into their warehouse's electrical room and stole copper components and wiring, damaging the electrical system.
Two days later, the property owner, accompanied by sheriff's deputies, went back to the warehouse and saw an unfamiliar pickup truck parked inside.
Deputies found Robert Hamilton, 58, a transient and "prolific" copper thief inside the warehouse. Sheriff's Office officials said they also found hundreds of pounds of copper components in the bed of Hamilton's truck, as well as tools and "other evidence associated with the burglary."
Hamilton was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail on several charges including suspicion of burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools. He is being help without bail.
